Bold colour blocking on the dining chairs compliments the light contrasting shades of the marble stone dining table. In extension, the overall composition (inclusive of the glass vase centered on the table, as well as the complimentary colour-textured wall) helps create an inviting focal point for the space
A focal point is a design element or design composition that helps to draw attention to a space. Whether the focal point revolves around decorative elements or functional elements that facilitate human activity, both serve a significant purpose to the person/people utilizing a space – they significantly add to the atmosphere of any interior, making it inviting
Focal points give people a sense of belonging and wanting to stay as their focus revolves around the human activity that the given space commands e..g. the focal point in a dining area revolves around the dining table and the dining chairs as this is where human activity goes on. So good design will emphasize visual focus on these elements to ensure that people come in and want to stay
The ceiling chandelier brings the eyes up, and along with the vertical wood paneling against the wall extending up to the ceiling, the height and volume of the space are further accentuated
*To be considered appealing to the eyes, a focal point should be limited to just one in the direction that one’s eyes are set – more than one, and the space could end up looking chaotic as a focal point is a visually intense design component that draws one’s eyes to it
The curvature in both the roundness of the dining table and the gentle curves on the chairs help to elevate the calming sensation – a quality of curved lines in the design
The framed wall art helped to give a more balanced definition of the textured statement wall. *Design Tip: One could also consider a clock rightfully positioned at the center of the vertical wood paneling on the statement wall and do without the framed artwork for a more minimalist aesthetic with a strengthened focal point
Overall, all the elements tie in together harmoniously to create one visually inviting and practical space.
